Psychological Evaluations use advanced interviewing techniques as well as a personalized battery of tests to answer questions about your cognitive functioning, academic achievement, social-emotional health, attention and concentration, and development in order to plan for treatment or make decisions that best fit with your strengths and weaknesses.
Dress comfortably, get a good nights sleep, eat a balanced breakfast, and take any prescribed medications. Make sure you arrive on time or even a few minutes early for your appointment. Depending upon the evaluation questions, the interview and testing can take between several hours and all day.
After your testing is completed, your psychologist and their team will begin scoring your tests and comparing these scores to normative data. After all of the scoring is complete and any additional records are reviewed by your doctor, they will interpret the test scores, past data, and results of the clinical interview to answer the original referral questions. Your psychologist will then write a report explaining the results and make recommendations personalized to you.
The best answer is that it depends. Testing services are offered at $200/ hour plus any test material cost. This testing rate includes any administration, scoring, interpreting, and reporting. Some evaluations are fairly simple and only require a few hundred dollars while others are much more complex and demand the doctors full day.
If paying out-of-netowrk or privately, a partial payment or full payment may be required on the day of testing, with the balance due when the results are ready. After the full cost of the assessment is paid, you can submit the required information to your plan for reimbursement to you.
