Margaret Werner, MA, LPC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 13 years experience as a mental health provider. I completed my undergraduate studies at Evangel University, returning recently to give a lecture on EMDR therapy . I earned a Masters in Clinical Psychology at Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in 2007, where I returned some years later as a guest lecturer on Private Practice .
Early educational experiences include pain management, addiction recovery and alternative approaches to pain and stress reduction. Enjoyment in research and writing led me to write mental health articles for Midtown South Community Council organization in New York. I am a published poet and have written short stories about my own experiences growing up in the midwest.
I started my career at Midwest Assessment and Psychotherapy Solutions, growing the Child and Adolescent portion of the practice. In 2013 my family moved to Glenwood Springs, Colorado where I started my own private practice. In addition to providing therapy for all ages, I had the opportunity to introduce and facilitate a Psychoeducational Program teaching conflict resolution and social skills for a K-8 private school. Upon returning to Missouri, I returned to group private practice until accepting an Outpatient Therapist position at Burrell Behavioral Health. While at Burrell I obtained advanced training in EMDR therapy, Biofeedback, and Group CBT. Further enhancing my career, I became a supervisor for Masters in Counseling students and interns, providing innovative training opportunities, as well as laying the groundwork for new supervisors, and incoming students/interns. In practice, I have been privileged to counsel individuals of all ages, however have maintained a focus on issues and transitions specific to teenagers and young adults.
Current Focus & Interests
I am fortunate to have had the guidance of remarkable clinicians over the span of my career which has greatly influenced how I approach the therapy process. I have lived my life as a peacemaker and a storyteller. I believe without a doubt this is exactly what I was meant to do.
